Attendance Policies

Absences

School attendance should be reported by calling the absentee line at 410-461-9111 ext. 250 or by completing the online form by 9:00 a.m. each day. Failure to contact the attendance line regarding an absence will result in an e-mail from school to report the absence. Parents may leave homework requests for after school pickup in the office or for work to be sent with a sibling or friend on the attendance line or online form. This request must be made by 9:00 a.m. For medical procedures or travel when a family is aware ahead of time of an absence, that information may also be left on the attendance line. One message can be left with the student names and dates of expected absence, eliminating the need to call daily.

After an absence and he/she returns to school, the student must bring a written note to his/her homeroom teacher signed by a parent/legal guardian stating the reason for absence. The school reserves the right to require a doctor’s note for absences due to illness or injury or need for assessment/evaluation. A child may not return to school until he/she is well enough to participate in all school activities including recess.

If a student will be out of school for an extended period, whether continuous or intermittent, parents should consult with the administration regarding appropriate support of the student in fulfilling the school curriculum or alternative arrangements such as home and hospital services through the local
public school district.

Per the AOB policy, a student marked absent for more than 20 instructional days in one school year is considered excessively absent and may result in the student being retained. The administration reserves the right to request a conference with parents of the student with excessive absences and
tardies at any point during the school year to make parents and students aware of the possible consequences of not attending school on a consistent basis. Child Protective Services (CPS) may be called due to excessive absences.

Late Arrival

Students arriving after 9:00 a.m. are considered tardy and should report to the school office. In the event that a child will be late for school, a parent/guardian should use the attendance line (410-461-9111 ext. 250) or online form before 9:00 a.m.to report the late arrival.

Early Dismissal

If a student needs to leave school during regular school hours, a note is to be sent to school with the student on the day of the early dismissal. Please include date, student’s full name, homeroom and time they are to be picked up. Students will not be dismissed from class until the parent arrives.
